Many garden lovers would be ready to go out of their way to visit a garden designed by the famous English landscape designer Russell Page, but perhaps very few know about San Liberato, only 50km from Rome. This garden is situated high up overlooking the lake Bracciano. It was created between 1965 and 1975 by the Count and Countess Sanminiatelli, with the help and guidance of Russell Page.
Here the attractions are many: a privileged position, beautiful chestnut woods, a view of the lake and surrounding countryside, splendid trees, a formal rose garden, informal flower beds which look like small islands dotting the green lawns, and borders of silver and grey plants. There is also a modern version of the 'Orto dei Semplici', the late medieval physic garden of the monasteries' pharmacies - situated next to the extraordinary church of San Liberato, dating from the year 1000 and which has the oldest bell tower in Lazio.
The complex of San Liberato can accommodate up to 200 people for each event.
